The Royal Wedding and the historic Goring Hotel, London

The Royal Wedding was the spectacular and memorable event that we all expected it to be.  Prince William and Kate were the undoubted and assured stars of the show on a day we'll all lovingly remember.

There was, however, another quiet star keeping a discreet distance, but very much a part of this marvellous event.  It was The Goring Hotel, of course, which throughout its century of service has been an integral element in many historic royal occasions, including deaths, births and marriages.   Well accustomed to foreign royalty, international glitteratti and periodic visits from its royal neighbours, The Goring has learnt to take all the pomp and circumstance in its stride.

This time, The Goring welcomed the Middleton family and their friends.   The entire hotel was fully booked for the exclusive group and it will always be remembered as the place Kate spent her last night with her family before her marriage.

If you are visiting London and fancy staying at an hotel where not only will you be treated like royalty, but you may very well encounter them, then The Goring will be the first you will choose  -  and rightly so.

The luxury 5-star Goring Hotel where the Middleton family stayed for the Royal Wedding.

Latest deals for Soho Hotels

My dear father used to tell me there were three things you should never trust: a whore's kiss, a bookie's tip and a publican's handshake. From the beginning I saw the wisdom in his words, and I was forever on my guard.
Thankfully, some things you can trust. And one them is the deals, discounts and special offers from London's Best Hotels that we regularly post here. If we say that we have savings or extra bonuses for some particular hotel or hotels, then we have. If we say it's an offer, then it's an offer. Genuine.
So then, here is the latest - our current deals for Soho Hotels.
Isn't it good to know there is someone you can trust? No offense intended to the majority of whores, bookies and publicans.

Do you know someone who suffers from a priority complex ? Escape with a deal from Hyde Park hotels

They say a bore is someone who talks when you wish him to listen.  I know such a guy, and every time I have to encounter him I am struck with the feeling that the daily struggle for existence may not just be worth it.

The truth is that some people are just so full of themselves that they are barely aware  -  or are completely unaware  -  of the possibility that you might imagine yourself to be possessed of feelings that your opinions, your self-esteem, your view of your place in the world may be equal to and every bit as valid as theirs.

This particular individual has such an unshakeable belief in his own importance, and his natural right to have whatever there is to be had without considering anybody else, that I have recently taken to the view that he is suffering from a priority complex.  You know the type of thing  -  someone leaves a bottle of wine in as a thank you for the staff, but he just assumes that he should be the first to have it ....... and he takes it!  Or a box of chocolates -  supposed to be shared, but snared by him instead.

I'm supposed to be writing about special offers for hotels near Hyde Park, but hump that for a minute.  I'll get back to it later.

The point here is: isn't it fantastic, just fantastic, to escape from the overbearing, egotistical, irritating and tedious company of someone like my 'friend.'

And that is exactly what I did yesterday  -  I made a spectacular escape from him and fled to the fresh, wide and verdant spaces of Hyde Park.  What freedom. What release.  This was what it means to be at liberty.  I was King and this was my Camelot, here in Hyde Park, for "one brief shining moment."  Well, actually ..... it was for half an hour.  I had to go back and meet up with him again.  But it was great at the time.  A lunch break on my own purchased with the excuse  - lie  -  that I needed to run down to the travel agents about a cruise booking.

The good news is it will be another two months before I have to see him again.

My wife says I should be more understanding, especially if he is, as I say, suffering from a priority complex.  Okay.  I accept he is a sufferer.  A victim, even.  But still.  It doesn't seem to work out too bad for him.  Whatever is going, he always gets it  -  including the wine.  ....... and the chocs.

Hyde Park  -  a great escape.  Relaxing moments in London's famous Royal Park.

Jurys Inn Heathrow - the reasonable alternative to high charges

Jurys Inn Heathrow Airport  - offering keen packages for
accommodation and discount car parking at good rates.

I have to say the park and fly deals offered by some airport hotels look very attractive.  Compared to the price you might have to pay for parking your car for the duration of a trip abroad, the charges from a hotel, that is usually coupled with a reasonable rate for accommodation, starts to look like a veritable kindness.

The overcharge alternative for some airport parking seems to underline the truth behind the saying that avarice is the spur of industry, and some of these companies aren't slow in sticking the spurs deep into the customer to extract the last extra penny they can force out of us.

This was mentioned to me by one lady out in Jurys Inn Hotel in Heathrow Airport where I was attending a meeting earlier this week . Instead of paying the silly prices, she was delighted with the deal she had got from Jurys which included one overnight stay for her flight the next morning, and parking at a discount rate for the week she was out of the country.

As an aside, Jurys Inn Heathrow is an excellent hotel  -  bright, modern and stylish, and with all the essential facilities available that you could possible need as an airport traveller.  I also noticed quite a few families stopping at this hotel.  Jurys, it would appear is very popular with families, not only because of the facilities, but because of the generous space in the guest rooms.  Maybe something you would not notice if you were travelling alone, but if you are a couple with a bunch of kids you certainly would appreciate it.  And let's admit it ...... some hotels in the city offer claustrophobic closets to their guests which insead of holding brooms and vacuum cleaners have graduated to become part of the bedroom inventory.

I would say, next time you you need car parking at Heathrow Airport, and especially if you are staying overnight, then take a look at the Jurys Inn reasonable alternative to the usual high charges.

London serviced apartments .... a cheaper choice

Hotel accommodation in London can often prove a difficult dilemma for families visiting the capital.  There is the question of space, the proximity of rooms, the in-room facilities and, most of all the cost involved. Having to book two or even three hotel rooms for a London stay can put a severe dent in your travel budget.

A better alternative, and one that some fail to even consider, is to book an apartment instead of the traditional hotel. It is a choice that offers greater flexibility, extra space, is more affordable, and means that you can keep a controlling eye on your beloved bunch of horrors within the one contained area.  It really is easier  -  a lot easier.

Increasingly, the attractions provided by serviced London apartments are making an impression on specific categories of visitors  -  not only families, but also groups of friends, corporate colleagues and singles who must plan for an extended stay in long-term accommodation.

Without a doubt, the driving impetus towards apatment stays is cost and savings.  They are far, far cheaper.

The freedom from the restricitons found in hotels is another factor in the growing popularity of self-catering apartments in London.  They provide much more flexibility and in particular, free guests from the constraints of hotel dining.  Meaning you eat what, when and how you want without set times, set meals and unsettling prices.

Apartments also give children an enhanced sense of freedom and an escape from the cabin-fever feeling sometimes engendered by hotel rooms. They are less likely to have their parents bearing down on them at frequent intervals to be quiet, to behave themselves, to stop running around. Somehow, the apartment atmosphere can let children be more themselves, and that is because parents, who often have the idea that they must keep their kids strictly controlled within the hotel environment, also tend to relax more.  And obviously, what helps create that sense of relaxation for both adults and kids ...... space ...... lots more space.

The good news is that you can find relatively cheap,  quality apartments that should suit your purpose and your requirements during your stay in the city.  Whatsmore, they are to be found all over London in good, central, convenient locations. Choose any popular area of the city and you will find a choice of good hotels.  But now you are also likely find in the same vicinity an excellent apartement.  You could decide to stay in the hotel, but if the apartment suits better  -  and is cheaper  -  do you really need to think about it.

Life can be easier.  You only have to decide to make it so.

~ check with LondonsBestHotels.net if you are considering an apartment stay in London.  We  always have special offers for London apartments and hotel accommodation, and these are regularly updated with the latest deals.

WWE in The O2 Arena - Not everybody loves John Cena

WWE is headed for the O2 Arena on the 18 April, 2011 with what will hopefully be a stunning  action packed show. Dedicated fans will expect to see their wrestling heroes in fearsome form with a display of spectacular moves that will pack enough power to send  opponents flying head first out of the ring.

And what's this with John Cena? The kiddies love him and will cheer for him like mad.  Not so much the adults though, many of whom harbour a quite wish that John Cena would be propelled through the canvas for a meeting with the cement floor of The O2.  Am I being unkind?  I don't think so. I am just relating the facts. Adult fans are fed up to the teeth of John Cena and can't wait for a career ending finish that would permanently take him off the scene.

What WWE needs is an end to predictability and a return to the era of past heroes. Yep.  What' s needed now is someone of the calibre  and class of JBL.   Can you imagine the welcome?

Guaranteed, I'll be there on the night in the company of a small gang of committed wrestling fans who despite their age have far more expertise than me. They will probably be on the John Cena side:   I'll be the lonely voice in the opposite camp. I'll be the guy  -  if I'm brave enough  -   holding the John Cena sign ....... it will be in the shape of an arrow and I'll have it pointing towards the ground, and it will read:  'John Cena  -  This Way.'

Still time, I think, for those of you who want to book tickets for the gig. If you are planning to overnight, then check out the deals for hotels near the O2 Arena to save on expenses.

Oh Yes. The other news is about the new signing to WWE.  The junior minions are very excited about it ........ a Mexican guy called Sin Cara who is in the style of Rey Mysterio, but apparently way better.  You can watch a video of him here on YouTube

See you there on the night.
