Birmingham Royal Ballet brings the marvelous Christmas classic The Nutcracker to the O2 Arena on Tuesday, 27 December.  The show runs through until the 30th of December and it should prove a delightful treat for a family outing.  This particular interpretation has won widespread critical acclaim, and its performance during the Christmas season should make it all the more magical. 

Hoffmann's fairytale story and Tchaikovsky’s beautiful music weave a web of sheer pleasure for audiences, and the wonderful dancers of the Birmingham Royal Ballet are guaranteed to provide a memorable presentation of this hugely popular favourite.

Thanksgiving Day in London

I'm here with some more promotions for those who may be interested in some excellent offers for Mayfairhotels, but I also feel I have to make mention of tomorrow's big day for all Americans, which is of course Thanksgiving Day.  The day falls on the fourth Thursday in November, and in fact, I would have forgot all about it except for an American friend who reminded me of the occasion.

So tomorrow will be a day heavily laden with creamy mash, succulent turkey slices, savoury stuffing and delicious pumpkin pie. It will certainly be a special treat for all our American friends presently visiting London as well as the large number of expats who have made their home here. For the most part, I imagine that Americans in London don't really bother having the Thanksgiving meal at home, but rather opt instead to venture out to one of the many restaurants in town who lay on the entire feast with all the trappings and none of the hassle.

Reading through some of the enticing menus available, I feel tempted to sortie out in total Yankee mode an immerse myself in the fun of the occasion. And who knows, I may get a chance to indulge in the unique delights of pumpkin pie.

London theatre on the cheap

Shock and Awe!  That is the feeling visitors to London can sometimes experience.  

It has nothing to do with grand scale military assaults designed to depose cartoon-style, global villains who in the best Batman tradition are imminently threatening partial world annihilation with mysterious weapons of mass destruction. (Yeah.  We all believed that one once). No, indeed.  Nothing to do with that, at all.  But it has everything to do with the astronomical prices you may be asked to pay for London theatre tickets when you try to book your favourite West End show.

The blurb might promise that you will be reeling in the aisles, but you could be reeling on the ground next to the ticket kiosk when see the price you will have to pay.

Another choice  ...    Go and see a Shakespeare play, and enjoy just as you would in the time of Shakespeare  -  standing.  Okay.  It's different, but it is also rock bottom cheap.  And it is The Bard, after all.
